Week three of the Spring ’23 One Room Challenge is here and I’m SO excited about this project — floating shelves! When we moved into this space there was a giant builder grade cabinet here that grossed me out so much I was scared to use it. We pulled that out and knew this little nook was the perfect place for floating shelves.

There were a few initial issues with the shelf buildout mainly that I thought brackets and fancy 2 inch wood would be ideal for floating shelves but apparently my husband and I are not that skilled and we went for plywood shelves instead. Long story short unfortunately I spent double the budget on these, argh.

We bought small pieces of wood to build out the structure, and then plywood to finish the edges, top and bottom.

While I was halfway through building the shelves I realized I should probably get a head start on painting the walls in that area before they went up so here’s a sneak peek at the textured wall project I’m tackling in the next few weeks. Shhhh!

And of course the floating shelves were styled within 5 minutes of the last nail going in them, because duh that’s my favorite things to do! They still need a wood stain but I’m so excited to have something pretty in this room that I couldn’t help myself and had to enjoy them first. That is a project to tackle another week, haha!
