Desert House Living Room: The Plan
The living room redesign at the desert house is underway, and I thought I’d share the plan with you to get an idea of where we’re heading with the space! When we bought the place the living room had this beige tile across the whole floor, and demoing all of the tile did not sound fun, so we opted for painting it white. I’ve always loved the idea of having a room with white floors that feels like a cozy Scandinavian-style space, so it seemed like the perfect option. A lot of people in the desert tend to remove flooring and do a stained concrete, and keeping to tile seemed like the perfect fit for Joshua Tree. So far I’ve painted the living room and kitchen floor to match, and it’s so nice and bright. Plus, every rug looks extra cozy on the white flooring.
So far we added this cane console table to the space, and a temporary sofa until we find the right one. Next up we’re going to skim coat and paint the walls, add a big jute rug, find the right sofa for the space, replace the front door, and replace the lighting. For the design of the space I want it to be very neutral and zen with lots of natural materials — jute, rattan, cane. I want the house to feel like a total escape, and the neutrals really add that relaxed feel. For the walls I’m thinking of doing a beige limewash, which will look textured and calming.
