Wow, after 5 months deep in quarantine it felt so good to get out of our house! Since we’ve cancelled all of our travel plans for the foreseeable future we booked a Joshua Tree social distance getaway for a few days so that we could get out of the house for a bit.

I’ll admit I was stressed about traveling during the pandemic, but we weighed out the options and decided to pull the trigger on an Airbnb in the dez since we wouldn’t need to interact with anyone. We made all of our meals in the kitchens of our AirBnbs, explored nature, and visited Joshua Tree National Park. It was such a nice way to disconnect.

Before we headed to Joshua Tree, we stayed at the Sands in Indian Wells. It’s a small Moroccan style hotel a bit off the beaten path of Palm Springs and it was the perfect getaway. We went on the weekday so it wouldn’t be very busy, and it was so nice to soak up the sun by the pool. Isn’t it a pink paradise? Their restaurant, the Pink Cabana, is just about the cutest place ever.

Once we checked out of the Sands we headed straight to Joshua Tree. The first Airbnb we stayed at was this cutie: Palo House. The decor was so unique and fun. Plus, it’s super close to the park.

While we were in Joshua Tree we picked up wine at the cutest shop: Wine & Rock Shop. They had the best selection of natural wines, and a bunch of amazing knick knacks and handmade ceramics. Definitely stop by and grab some bottles on your next trip to Joshua Tree. We also grabbed a yummy breakfast to-go at Frontier Cafe one day too. We headed to Pioneertown for a walk around too. I love stopping by there when I’m in Joshua Tree. If you haven’t checked out my Joshua Tree Travel Guide right here I have lots more places to stop by there too!

Next up we headed deeper into the country and stayed at Shack Attack. Wow it was OUT there (like we had to drive for miles down a dirt road to get there). But once we were there it felt like we were instantly relaxed. It’s the perfect place to arrive and disappear for a few days. We jumped back and forth from lounging on the bed, and soaking in the outdoor tub to take in the views. What a dream!

We drove through Joshua Tree National Park a few times, watched the sunset, and took in the sunshine. I’m really seeing the silver lining in not traveling too far this year–it’s such a great opportunity to enjoy nature! I’ll admit most of my travel involves cities and a lack of nature. There really is so much beauty out there that doesn’t have to involve bar hopping and eating out. While I won’t be traveling much this year, I’m definitely making an effort to spend more time in nature and exploring places sans people.
