I just got back from a quick trip to Texas to visit Joe’s family, and I was so surprised with how many cute spots there were to see in Dallas that I had to make a quick travel guide. My favorite neighborhoods were the Bishop Arts District and the Lower Greenville/Highland Park area.

BISHOP ARTS DISTRICT

When we first got into town, we headed into the Bishop Arts District and were pleasantly surprised with some really cute places! There were blues street performers on every corner, and it felt like the perfect start to a Texas trip.

Oddfellows

Our first stop in Texas! We hadn’t eaten all day, and we were so excited to find Oddfellows. I had the gluten-free pesto pasta that was full of veggies, and Joe got the buffalo fried chicken + mac and cheese. It was sooo good! They have a good coffee menu too so you can get a bit of a recharge.

Oasis Plant Shop

Across from Oddfellows, a there a cute little plant shop! Need I say more? I’m a sucker for plant shops, and Oasis is the kind of plant jungle dreams are made of.

Harkensback

We walked around the neighborhood and stumbled into Harkensback They have the loveliest selection of linen clothes, handmade jewelry and pottery.

Local Press + Brew

Local Press + Brew easily became our go-to spot for coffee! It’s a cute coffee shop right outside of the main area of the Bishop Arts District, and you can grab a coffee and sit inside, or out on their huge patio. Try their coconut nitro coffee on a hot day!

SERVE

We stopped by Serve to get some acai bowls and smoothies, it’s in an old house turned cafe. A good spot to grab a refreshing drink on a hot day!

LOWER GREENVILLE

We spent most of our time in the Lower Greenville neighborhood. Between shopping and restaurants, the area had so much to do. The area has a casual vibe, and is near the college so it’s a pretty young, hip area. There was a lot of construction in the area, and a ton of new restaurants to check out. We went to quite a few and barely grazed the surface.

Good Records

I fell in love with this record store as soon as we walked in. Good Records is so colorful and fun, and they had a really good selection. If you’re into vinyl, be sure to stop by this shop.

Bar Stellar

A super cute spot for cocktails and food! Bar Stellar is definitely a spot for the ladies, or date night. We stopped in on a Monday, and were surprised with a ‘ladies eat free on Monday’s’ menu. We both had their flaming tiki cocktail that had smoke coming out of it the entire time. So fun!

Reformation

I’m a big fan of Reformation, so I had to stop by their Dallas storefront. There’s a little plaza of shops in the area that you can check out as well. It’s right across from Bar Stellar, so it’s the perfect place to stop in before or after drinks.

Henry’s Majestic

We came by Henry’s Majestic for brunch and it was packed to the brim. Talk about the most poppin’ brunch spot! I got the chilaquiles (my fave), and the watermelon swizzle cocktail. So good! Joe ordered the 8 AM cocktail, which is a take on a Vietnamese coffee with Nitrous-charged vietnamese blended coffee, vanilla-infused bourbon, and sweetened condensed milk. Whew that one packed a punch!

Gemma

If you’re looking for the perfect date night, Gemma is the place to go! Their cocktails and food are spectacular.  Even if you don’t want to have a full dinner, I’d say to stop by and get a drink and appetizers at the bar. You won’t regret it!

Dolly Python

The type of thrift store that you fall in love with the second you walk in. Dolly Python has a huge collection of vintage cowboy boots, fun vintage clothes, and a great record selection. I found my all time favorite record from Buckingham Nicks there, and picked up a tiki mug to add to our collection. P.S. they do tarot readings on weekends.

DOWNTOWN + DEEP ELLUM

We heard Deep Ellum was a must-go to, and a big part of Texas pride. On our last day we stopped in Deep Ellum for a quick walk through, and found a few great happy hour spots!

Harlowe MXM

After walking around Deep Ellum, we stopped at Harlowe MXM for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised will $5 cocktails including the most delicious spicy watermelon frozen margarita. The interior feels industrial modern meets classic Gatsby. We grabbed a few appetizers and were impressed with everything. P.S. they have a rooftop, and their brunch looks great too! A must-go to if you’re in the area.

Mercat Bistro

Mercat Bistro is a lovely French spot near Uptown. We had the charcutterie board, merguez sausage and escargot and it was the perfect “dinner”. A good date spot!
